On eri lait eri osavaltioissa ja erot on huomattavia jopa eri osavaltioiden sisäisissä kunnissa/kaupungeissa. Esim. pohjois/keski Floridassa voi hyvinkin nähdä tyyppejä huoltoasemalla aseen kanssa (en tiedä onko laillista mut ei siihen kukaan puutu) mutta kaupungeissa välittömästi olisi poliisit paikalla. Mikä se Kalifornian tapaus oli? En nähnyt juttua siitä.

Joo, toki lainsäädäntö vaihtelee paljonkin, mutta yleisestikin ottaen jos kokee itsensä tai perheensä uhatuksi ja ampuu niin tuskin joutuu syytteeseen tai ainakaan saa tuomiota juuri missään osavaltiossa. Juryhan senkin ratkaisee, joten tapauskohtaisesti pitäisi asiaa lähestyä. Missään ei ainakaan lailla kielletä omaisuuttaan ja perhettään puolustamasta ja tuollapäin hämärämiehen hiippailut tai murtoyritykset voi melko suoraan tulkita todelliseksi uhaksi.
Teksas taitaa olla omaisuudenkin puolustamisen kannalta vapaammalla linjalla kuin pohjoisemmat osavaltiot ja ilmeisesti kiinteistöllä olevaan tyhjään ulkorakennukseenkin tms. tunkeutuminen oikeuttaa ampumaan puolustukseksi ja tuskin Teksas ainoa osavaltio siinä suhteessa on ja hyvällä puolustusasianajajalla voi selvitä lopuissa.
En muista millä nimellä tuo toinen tapaus täällä oli, mutta vastaavia saa alkuperäiskielellä läjäpäin kun lyö "homeowner shoots burglar" haun googleen. Erään never heard-bändin jäsen Carter Albrecht ainakin kuoli seuraavasti,eikä tapauksesta nostettu syytteitä, tosin paikka oli Dallas, Texas

After having some drinks with his girlfriend Ryann Rathbone at a Dallas bar, Albrecht became intoxicated. Rathbone drove him to her house, and they both took their dose of Chantix. A short while later, Albrecht began speaking incoherently, broke a drinking glass on a table, and hit Rathbone several times, something he had never done before. She ran outside, and Albrecht followed. Rathbone re-entered her home and locked the doors behind her. Albrecht yelled and pounded on her front door in an unsuccessful attempt to reenter her house.
At this point, Albrecht went into Rathbone's neighbor's backyard, and he and his wife were awakened by the loud pounding and yelling at their back door. Albrecht was told to stop, but he did not; Rathbone's neighbor then says he fired a "warning shot" through the door. The door was made of thick, opaque glass, and the porch was well-lit. FORT WORTH — The two warning signs at Abel Sisneros home should be enough for trespassers.
The sign of the front door says: “Warning. Nothing inside is worth risking your life for. Owners of this property are armed and highly skilled to protect life, liberty and property from criminal attacks.”
And consider the sign on the front window: “No trespassing. Violators will be shot. Survivors will be shot again.”
But Sisneros, 25, said Thursday he still had to shoot a man in his home early Thursday after the man broke down the front door and entered the home.
“With all those signs, he still tried to get in,” said Sisneros, an AutoZone sales manager who goes to the firing range at least once a month. “I can’t believe it.”
